Importing Data

To open the File Gateway module for importing data, click the

icon on the main menu bar. Once the File Gateway module initializes, select the Import tab.

On the Import tab, choose to either add the data to an Existing Table, or create a New Table for the data. If you choose Existing Table, you can then select the existing table or view to place the data into from the Select Table/View drop-down list. If you choose New Table, you will need to create a new table name in the Enter New Table Name field.

NOTE: Valid names must be a unique 1-18 character alpha-numeric name that starts with an alpha character and can include the following symbols: Letters (A-Z); Numbers (0-9); # (pound sign); _ (underscore); $ (dollar sign); % (percent sign). Spaces are NOT permitted. Also, for ODBC compliance, it is not recommended to use the # (pound sign) symbol in a table name even though R:BASE permits it.

After configuring the destination table, choose the import format of the file from the list of acceptable formats in the Select Import Format drop-down list.

Lotus 1-2-3 (*.wk1)

Lotus 1-2-3 (*.wk2)

Lotus Symphony (*.wr1)

QuattroPro (*.wq1)

XML (*.xml)

MS Access Database (*.mdb)

Finally, enter a source file name in the Enter File Name field. You can click the

icon to the right of the field to open a Browse dialog.

When you have provided the necessary criteria, press the Start button to continue.
